Wall Hook
From boring to mundane to scary creative, a wall hook can do so
much more than just hold your keys, hats, coats, an umbrella or about anything you can carry. Not to mention the
clutter they can address in the garage, basement, kitchens, bedrooms; wherever there is a wall, organization can be
improved with the simple addition or a hook in any number of sizes, types and designs.
There are some that border on the genius and creative
wonderment. For instance, consider someone taking a large doll with chubby arms and legs that has seen her better
days. What would you think if you entered a hallway and went to hang up your coat and found a chubby little arm or
leg sticking out from the wall waiting for your coat? It could make for a conservation piece if nothing else.
That's right, you could take recycling to a new level of sorts. Just take a big old doll, pull the arms and legs
and file them smooth, take a little glue and a few screws. Find a sturdy tray or wooden wall plaque and add the
doll parts to it and mount it on the wall. A unique hanger. If baby parts are not your idea of fun, take the same
concept with a dismembered teddy bear instead.
Another funny (maybe) idea is provided by TC Studio. They have
a sure-fire way to get some attention and provide something totally different, yet still practical. Imagine knives
sticking out from your wall with all manner of stuff hanging from them. They are individual, so you can place them
in any pattern you like. A fun little touch or downright creepy, let your friends be the judge. They might fit in
nicely, somewhere.
If knives in the wall might be a bit too risky for your taste,
or your visitors, go with a gun. Cactus design GRAPHICA is a Japanese design company with a little twist to all of
their products. They offer 3 very unusual colored polyurethane guns to mount on your wall to catch the hats,
towels, coats and whatnot's. These are 200 mm long with a 55 mm bend in the barrel that acts as the hook. For about
$17 each, take your best shot at impressing your visitors.
Kikkerland Design has been bringing original, fun, functional
items for 18 years. They have a distinctive, but much less shocking, idea for accessory hooks that can handle most
items. There are 3 silver-coated men, the "Back-Up", the "Stretching" and the "Man Feet Up" hooks. Tasteful and
eye-catching alternatives.
Harry Allen is a designer that simply took casts of his own
hands and named one "C'Mere" which is the palm up and all but the index finger closed and the gesture for 'come
here.' Other variations are the "Grab Hand" and "Offer Hand", both palm up, one in a open-handed position and the
other is cupped. Now, for a very nice novelty idea, consider putting a pair of these evenly spaced and place a
glass shelve over them. His other model is a hand that is closed, with the thumb up, so it could hold a vase. These
are made of resin and marble and sell for $75 to $95 each.
A few other clever ideas for a wall hook includes colorful,
flower-theme 'flip-flops'; pet-lovers might really want the cute little puppy butts; an earthenware 1/2 tea
cup; a hippo set, with one the head and the other - the other end; or something more practical - giant
pushpins. Obviously, there is no shortage of creativity.
